John Forte – Sew I (So I)
New track by John Forte of The Fugees fame. I think it might be off his new Water, Light and Sound LP that’s dropping sometime this year.Great lyrics as usual for John Forte since the I John LP over a smooth beat where he mc’s as well as sings. Its reminiscence of his work on the Stylesfree Ep he recorded after getting a presidential pardon and coming home from a 7 yr bid last year.
Corinne Bailey Rae – Is This Love
New track off of Corinne Bailey Rae’s Love Ep that just dropped.I’m not a huge fan of cover songs.Although once in a blue theirs one that tops the original like Jimi Hendrix s All Along The Watchtower over Bob Dylan’s version.Nirvana’s The Man Who Sold The World over David Bowie’s etc.Or like in this case offers a nice spin on the record.Although Bobs version will stand the test of time to me.Corinne killed this track in my opinion by bringing her usual sexy laid back flow over a great interpolation of The Wailers music. So she gets A+ to go along with her fine self 🙂
Gil Scott Heron – I’ll Take Care Of You (Jamie xx Remix)
I’m not really familiar with Jamie xx except the fact he made a great remix of this track. Gil Scott Heron on the other hand is easily top 5 in my book of all time favorite musicians. So to come across a remix of a Gil joint I was definitely eagerly in wanting to hear it but at the same time waiting to hear a train wreck. But I must say even though I like the og version that was released on his long awaited album last year(which sadly I rated like a C- due to the voice he used).I think this joint brings a whole new smooth upbeat approach to the almost Gargamel voice Gil chose to use on this project.I’m feeling it and apparently this Jamie xx dude remixed the entire I’m New Here album.Which is soon to be released.
Bright Eyes – Shell Games
I’m not really a fan of Brighteyes even though I love a few of their songs like Take It Easy (Love Nothing). This joint hits though and if its not already big I see this being a huge hit for them. Its off their new album The Peoples Key dropping Feb 15th.
The Gorillaz – Revolving Doors
Off their free ep that dropped around Xmas time called The Fall. All the tracks were written and performed using the i-Pad and additional instruments.Pretty crazy. This is one of the tunes that stood out to me.Really feeling the lyrics which ride this mellow and at times funky beat nice.

Toro y Moi – Still Sound
A brand new lilting, silky-smooth ’70s disco-funk-tinged jam from Toro y Moi, taken from his forthcoming Underneath the Pine LP, out February 22, 2011.
Cake – Federal Funding
New track from 90’s indie group Cake.Another band I’m not a huge fan of except a few tracks(back in the day).I always got to give it up to their bass player though, hes a beast. So naturally I’m really feeling their basslines and on this song their politically inspired lyrics too. It’s off their Showroom of Compassion album dropping this month.
Great anti police brutality track and new single from Organized Konfusion member Pharoahe Monch…Nuff said..really.Clap is off his We Are Renegades album due out later this year.

M-1(Dead Prez) & DJ Child – Hold You Head Up
I haven’t really dug any new Dead Prez since their early joints from Loud and of course their debut to me was a classic.Theirs a few joints and guest appearances here and their.Last year when they dropped their last mixtape Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz my mind changed. That mix was def hitting and had a bunch of tracks that banged. This is track does exactly that. Its off the
